That&rsquo;s probably why the two things I&rsquo;ve kept coming back to; how governments behave and how markets price things, never felt like separate interests.</p> <p>I studied finance and economics at Nebraska and spent three summers working at U.S. embassies: human resources in Bogotá, then twice in Berlin, in the Economic Section and in Financial Management. Berlin&rsquo;s economic posting was the one that stuck. Each morning we decided which of the previous day&rsquo;s stories, whether a data print, an industry report, or a minister&rsquo;s remarks was worth Washington&rsquo;s attention, then said it in four sentences.
